Welcome to the Ponty Town web site...

TRAVEL & TOURISM

Unlike many "sanitised" tourist sites/pages we are quite happy to give you the rough with the smooth - at least that way we won't be lying to you and who knows you may even be pleasantly surprised and come away having had a great visit.

If you check out our history page, our local heroes page, rugby pages and the photos below you will soon realise that there is plenty to see and do in and around Ponty town. With the University down the road we also have loads of parents dropping off students and visiting the area. We have the War Memorial Park, a great rugby team, the historical Old Bridge (illuminated at night), the museum, Pontypridd Common with the Rocking Stones and druid circle and not forgetting one of the prettiest parts of the Taff Trail to name but a few attractions. Ponty is also where the composers of the Welsh National anthem wrote our countries anthem.

Unfortunately, after 30 years of inertia from various council administrations and 12 years trying to get a worthwhile sustainable development for the people of Pontypridd from this website nothing has changed. Actually that's not true, things are worse now. The website was started to improve the lot of Ponty people but things have gone from bad to worse - maybe it's our fault?

Ponty - a town of over 30,000 residents still does not have a swimming pool, a sports centre or a regional rugby team. This is unacceptable and bordering on criminal! Should we write to the authors of "Crap Towns"?

We are also one of the few towns of this size to not have a war memorial inscribed with the names of the war dead, yet the local council could find £133,000 for a piece of questionable "art".

Getting Here
Most trains and buses run from many UK towns to Cardiff and then a quick change and a short 30mins ride north gets you to Ponty. Public transport in the UK is extortionate compared to the rest of the world and is also pretty unreliable so renting a car can often be an easier way to get around.

Places to stay

Ponty is very short on accommodation although Cardiff obviously has hundreds of places for all budgets. To be honest we don't know a single place to stay in Ponty, although you can find a few online. What any of these are like or indeed if they are still open we don't know so can't really say. If you run a B&B in Ponty please let us know and we'll add you to our very short list.

I suppose we might suggest that there is a potential market here for someone to open up a good B&B in town and advertise it in our business directory and message board as some people must still want to visit Ponty.

Visiting Ponty?

There are things to see and do here but you'll need to work hard to find them yourself. Our view is that Ponty should promote itself more as a tourist attraction to encourage more visitors? After all we have the Park, tons of history, the Taff Trail and beautiful scenery but without leadership from council what hope do we really have? Take a look at the images here or scroll through the images of Wales and Pontypridd here.

PHOTOGRAPHY

We've often been criticised by people for only showing the "ugly" side or grot spots in our town but this is not true as we've always had "good" images as well as "bad" ones on the site. I guess people gravitate towards the crappy ones as they make you feel something should be done. Anyway, below is a selection of the good, the bad and the ugly from in and around Pontypridd.

All the prints below can be purchased for personal and business useage - drop us an email to find out more. Also, don't forget there is more photography if you visit Dave Lewis Photography.
